Maybe you are considering an elopement. Welcome — elopements are truly amazing.

Perhaps Italy holds a special meaning in your love story. Maybe you’ve been married before and want to celebrate differently this time. Or maybe you simply dream of sharing an intimate and meaningful experience together, surrounded by breathtaking views and incredible food and wine.
Every story is unique. But let me tell you something: eloping is always a beautiful idea. It’s often easier to organize than you think, even at the last minute. 1. Rome the eternal city
Elope in Italy – Dolce Vita style
Rome is one of the most magical cities to get married in Italy. Whether you are planning an elopement or an intimate wedding, the city offers endless possibilities. Of course, there are the world-famous landmarks — the Colosseum, Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, Villa Borghese — all incredible backdrops for wedding photos. But Rome is so much more than its iconic monuments. I personally love the quiet streets behind the Pantheon, where couples can experience the real Dolce Vita atmosphere, capture candid moments, and enjoy some of the best gelato in the city. I’ve created a full guide about eloping in Rome, with tips and ideas to help you plan your day — you can read it here.

2. Venice the serenissima
Elope in Italy in the fav place of american celebrities
I have to be honest with you: there’s truly nothing like Venice. Getting married or eloping in Venice is a unique and unforgettable experience. Venice is synonymous with glamour and has a long history connected to art and cinema, from the Venice Biennale and the Guggenheim Museum to the famous Venice Film Festival. It’s no surprise that international celebrities have chosen Venice to celebrate their weddings, including George Clooney in 2014 and, more recently, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez, who hosted lavish wedding celebrations here last year (everyone still talk about it!).
The city feels almost unreal — romantic, mysterious, and endlessly cinematic. And Don’t think that Venice is only for big, expensive weddings – It’s actually one of the most magical places in the world to elope. Of course, a gondola ride is a wonderful way to capture photos along the hidden canals while escaping the busiest tourist areas. But Venice offers so many possibilities beyond that. You can choose a legal wedding ceremony at Palazzo Cavalli, near the Rialto Bridge, or opt for a symbolic ceremony in a quiet garden or on a terrace overlooking the Grand Canal. Venice is pure magic, and you can find many real Venice elopement examples in my portfoliO here.
3. Positano, cliffside romance
Elope in Italy in the dreamest summertime location (Limoncello Spritz included)
Do you love breathtaking backdrops, the sea, and colorful houses cascading down the cliffs? Then this is the perfect place for you. Positano is truly one of my favorite places in Italy for an elopement. It offers everything you could dream of — and even more.
An elopement in Positano is an unforgettable experience. Since 2014, I’ve had the pleasure of photographing beautiful elopements in some of the best hotels and iconic locations, including Villa Magia, Marincanto, Villa Boheme, Rada, Hotel Murat etc.
You will find many elopements in Positano here and also a full long post about Positano that I wrote with many informations to help you : here and here too for 2026 elopements in Positano.
Feel free to Contact me here Ciao Peggy for more info about my elopement packages and available dates for your elopement in Italy.
You can add the video to all my packages. From my experience, couples are very happy to have a video of the day, especially when they elope without family or guests. Positano on video is unforgettable (especially with the stunning drone shots). Contact me here Ciao Peggy for more info about my elopement packages including a Positano wedding videographer!
As a little bonus to get you even more excited about eloping to Positano, here’s a behind-the-scenes reel I filmed on my iPhone during a September elopement at the stunning Villa Boheme.

In Capri the sea is part of the scenery, creating unforgettable backdrops for your special day. Or unforgettable villa damecuta, Set on the magnificent coast of Anacapri, with an amazing sea view.
But Capri offers much more than glamour. On the quieter side of the island, in Anacapri, you can experience authentic local life, away from the busiest tourist areas, creating a more intimate and relaxed elopement experience.

6. Apulia – Southern italian style
Elope in Italy between trulli, Masseria and the great colors of seaside
My father’s family comes from Apulia, so I have a very special connection with this beautiful region of Italy. The light here is incredible, and Puglia is a land rich in culture, traditions, and amazing food. There are so many wonderful locations for an elopement, whether by the sea or in the countryside — in a traditional masseria surrounded by olive trees or even in one of the iconic trulli houses. From the Gargano coast to Monopoli, Ostuni, Polignano a Mare, and Alberobello, the region offers endless possibilities for a unique experience. for example, Torre Coccaro or the Coccaro beach club are amazing locations to celebrate.

7. Tuscany – Landscapes and Historic Architecture Elopement Dream
Elope in Italy – Tuscany is the essence of italian style
Well, everyone agrees: Tuscany is one of the most beautiful regions in Italy — and in the world. And of course, it’s a perfect place for an elopement. Whether in the middle of vineyards, in a charming medieval town, along roads lined with cypress trees, like Certaldo Alto, Pienza, Cortona, Borgo Pignano next to Volterra, at the Lazy Olive, a stunning venue Nestled amidst the picturesque rolling hills of Siena, or in the heart of Florence with its extraordinary architecture, iconic Ponte Vecchio, and breathtaking views from the surrounding hills, Tuscany offers endless possibilities for an unforgettable experience.
One of my favorite hotels in Florence is the Four Seasons — truly stunning, with magnificent gardens that are perfect for intimate ceremonies and portraits. But the city and the whole region are filled with incredible villas and gardens ideal for an elopement. 8. Taormina – the Pearl of Sicily
Elope in Italy with the great sicilian beauty
Maybe you discovered Taormina while watching The White Lotus a few years ago on HBO. Eloping above the sea, with Isola Bella at your feet… Taormina is pure magic. This stunning Sicilian town is perfect for a truly special elopement. Italy is full of wonders, but Taormina has a soul of its own — the sea, vibrant colors, and the view of Mount Etna in the distance make every corner feel cinematic.
If you’re looking for an authentic Sicilian experience, Taormina is a dream destination for an intimate celebration: exchanging vows under the Sicilian sun on the “Rotonda” terrace at Hotel San Pietro, one of my favorite spots for a breathtaking moment suspended above Isola Bella, or choosing a quieter ceremony in the beautiful Villa Comunale (Parco Trevelyan), offering stunning views over the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna. And then, wandering through historic streets and churches, celebrating your love with a gelato in hand — pure, simple happiness.

9. Matera – the Stone City
Elope in Italy – unique experience, niche destination

If you are looking for a niche destination for your elopement, really unique and original, big spaces and history at each step, this place is perfect. It has a lot to offer for all levels of budgets. Basilicata is very budget friendly so you can stay in a fab hotel and eat in stylish restaurants for very reasonable costs compared to other areas/cities in Italy. A symbolic ceremony is very easy to organize in matera. Many public free spots can be used for ceremony in the city and outside, with the view on the Sassi.

Italy’s largest lake offers a beautiful and often underrated setting for an elopement, blending alpine scenery with Mediterranean charm.
