LET’S ELOPE on the Amalfi coast
and Make It Absolutely Unforgettable
By me, Peggy – your Amalfi coast elopement photographer
Ready for your southern italy adventure? Elope on the Amalfi coast is a truly unique experience and for one of the most beautiful ways to create unforgettable memories together.
Dear friends, this guide is definitely not another boring article about how fabulous it is to elope on the Amalfi Coast (we all already know that!), written by AI without soul, heart, or real experience.
This guide comes from years of experience as an elopement photographer and my long-standing love story with the Amalfi Coast. Since 2014, I’ve photographed — and mostly personally planned — countless elopements in Positano, Amalfi, Sorrento, Capri, Ischia, Ravello and throughout the Amalfi Coast.
And I’m still deeply in love with the palette of colors, the intensity and subtle shades of the light, and the unique atmosphere of the coast.
“Should I elope in Positano or Sorrento? Where should I begin? Where can I have a symbolic ceremony? And what about a boat ride?” Planning to elope on the Amalfi Coast can feel overwhelming — but no worries, this guide is here to help. As a photographer specializing in elopements and intimate weddings, I created this post to help you understand what to expect and how to start planning your unforgettable day.
Let the adventure begin!

Pick a town
To elope on the Amalfi Coast
I often receive messages from couples dreaming of eloping on the Amalfi Coast but unsure which town to choose. What’s the difference between Amalfi and Positano? What are the options, the atmosphere, and how will the day actually feel in each place?
In reality, eloping in Amalfi, Positano, Ravello or Capri… offer different experiences. From the vibe and scenery to logistics and overall style, each town has its own personality.
I know it can feel a little overwhelming at first — and that’s exactly why I created this guide. It will help you understand which town fits your vision best, based on your style, your priorities, and your budget.
Amalfi
Luxury hotels for special elopement ceremony & intimate wedding
Anantara Convento di Amalfi Grand Hotel
An elopement at Anantara Convento di Amalfi Grand Hotel offers a truly unique setting inside a 13th-century former Capuchin monastery perched high above the sea. The historic cloister, panoramic terraces and infinity pool overlooking the coastline create an elegant and dramatic atmosphere for both ceremonies and portraits. The cloister is especially beautiful for an intimate symbolic ceremony, surrounded by centuries of history and Mediterranean light.
There are several refined options for a private dinner, whether on a terrace or in one of the hotel’s exclusive spaces, making the experience feel complete and truly elevated. Elopements (just the two of you) are absolutely possible here — but this venue, 5 stars luxury is best suited for couples with a solid luxury budget who want something exceptional and private on the Amalfi Coast.
An elopement at Hotel Santa Caterina in Amalfi is a timeless choice on the Amalfi Coast. Family-owned and perched above the sea, this iconic five-star hotel offers breathtaking panoramic terraces, lush Mediterranean gardens and direct access to a private beach club. The garden area is especially beautiful for a symbolic ceremony, with the coastline stretching endlessly behind you. Perfect for couples dreaming of an Amalfi Coast wedding with classic Italian elegance and exceptional hospitality. Perfect with a few guests for ceremony and dinner in The Michelin-starred restaurant Glicine, an exceptional dining experience.
Where to have a photoshoot around town
• Duomo di Amalfi & Piazza del Duomo: The iconic cathedral staircase is one of the most dramatic backdrops on the Amalfi Coast.
• Amalfi Harbor & Lungomare: The colorful boats, pastel buildings and open sea views give a fresh Mediterranean vibe — beautiful for relaxed, joyful moments after the ceremony.
• Private Boat Ride Along the Coast: Honestly, Amalfi is best seen from the water. A private boat ride offers dramatic cliffs, hidden coves and that iconic Amalfi Coast perspective that feels effortlessly editorial.

Positano
Why Positano Is the Most Iconic Place to Elope on the Amalfi Coast
Positano stands out because nowhere else on the Amalfi Coast offers such a dramatic combination of colorful cliffside houses, sweeping sea views and layered terraces all in one compact setting. Everything is within walking distance — ceremony spots, beaches, luxury hotels, iconic streets — which makes the flow of an elopement day incredibly dynamic and visually diverse. I felt in love with this special town on 2014 when I have shot my first elopement there. And I’m still in love! Positano is one of the most instantly recognizable and photogenic backdrops in Italy.

My top 3 of the best Hotels to elope in Positano
Two nights is a beautiful hotel with a terrace that we can use for ceremony is perfect to elope in Positano, I have shot elopements in many Villas, Hotels and sometimes Airbnb in town, I know all the best places with the view that we want for ceremony and the conditions of each location to allow that kind of ceremony, Keep in mind that not all the hotels allow elopements or weddings so it is always better to know where it is possible, what’s the cost and how to book it. These are the places that I recommend if you have a good budget. I will help you in the process of planning in these places.
Villa Boheme is truly a dream location in Positano. With its elegant architecture, expansive terraces and breathtaking views over the town and the sea, it offers one of the most exclusive settings for an elopement on the Amalfi Coast. I’ve photographed several elopements in the stunning Acquamarina (huge terrace and private pool) and Puccini Suites (stunning columns and lemons trees), both perfect for private ceremonies and refined portraits. It’s a premium choice, but absolutely worth it for couples seeking privacy, design and unforgettable views — my personal favorite in Positano.
Hotel Marincanto is probably the most iconic venue for small weddings in the center of Positano, famous for its panoramic terrace overlooking the colorful town and the sea. It’s an excellent choice for intimate weddings with guests, while also offering beautiful options for elopements in the L’Incanto Suite and the Prestige Suite, both featuring private terraces and breathtaking views. I’ve photographed many weddings and elopements at Hotel Marincanto and can share full galleries to help you better visualize how your day could unfold here.
Villa Magia in Positano is a contemporary luxury boutique hotel perched above the town, offering multiple panoramic terraces with uninterrupted views over the sea and the colorful cliffside houses. ideal for both intimate weddings with guests and elegant elopements. The main room with the big windows and two terraces is perfect for intimate elopement.
If you are planning an elopement in Positano on a budget
In high season, it can be very difficult to find a hotel room with a private terrace suitable for a ceremony under €1,000 per night. If you have a limited budget, there are more affordable alternatives for accommodation and ceremony locations that still allow for a beautiful experience.
Some couples consider renting an Airbnb, which can work — but location is crucial. Try to stay in the very center of Positano. Choosing a place too high up on the hill can significantly change your experience: there are countless stairs, some areas are accessible only on foot, and taxis are expensive and sometimes hard to find. Feel free to ask my help to understand if it would work!
If you’re flexible with your dates, I highly recommend spring or early autumn, when prices are slightly lower — roughly from mid-April to the end of May, and from late September to mid-October. Eloping outside these months is possible, but keep in mind that boat rides may not be available and many hotels, shops and restaurants close during the winter season. As an alternative, we can plan a vintage car photoshoot for a different but equally beautiful experience.

Ravello
Villa Cimbrone
An elopement photoshoot at Villa Cimbrone in Ravello is all about iconic views and architectural elegance. The famous Terrace of Infinity, lined with marble busts, offers one of the most breathtaking & famous panoramas over the Amalfi Coast. With its historic gardens, stone pathways and dramatic cliffside setting, Villa Cimbrone creates a refined and cinematic backdrop for unforgettable portraits. Keep in mind that the Villa is not always available for photoshoots as it gives priority to full wedding days. It is also possible to book it only 3 months before. You will have a small discount if you stay at the hotel too.
Villa Rufolo
Villa Rufolo in Ravello combines historic architecture with panoramic coastal views. The 13th-century villa features Moorish cloisters, stone towers and beautifully manicured gardens overlooking the Amalfi Coast. Its iconic terrace facing the sea offers a refined and elegant setting for portraits, especially in the soft afternoon light. Budget friendly, it is a good option for a photoshoot and exchanging vows the two of you (no celebrant and no guests).
The Hotel Belmond Caruso
An elopement at Belmond Hotel Caruso in Ravello offers one of the most exclusive settings on the Amalfi Coast. Set in a former 11th-century palace perched 1,000 feet above the sea, the hotel features terraced gardens, historic frescoed interiors and its iconic infinity pool overlooking the coastline. It’s a perfect choice for couples dreaming of a refined wedding ceremony with panoramic views and timeless Italian elegance.

Basilica Sant’Eustachio
A ceremony setting suspended between sea and sky
The Basilica di Sant’Eustachio in Scala gained renewed attention last year after hosting the wedding photoshoot of French model Kleofina Pnishi and footballer Benjamin Pavard. This 12th-century Romanesque ruin, perched above Ravello, offers a dramatic open-air apse overlooking the Amalfi Coast and the Gulf of Salerno. It’s a striking and cinematic alternative to Ravello’s classic terraces, ideal for symbolic and also civil ceremonies or unforgettable portrait sessions.
It’s also a wonderful option to combine a ceremony at the Basilica di Sant’Eustachio with an elopement photoshoot in Amalfi (the town center, a boat ride along the coast) or in Ravello (Villa Rufolo, for example), as they are located very close to each other. This allows you to experience different atmospheres in one single day — historic ruins, coastal views, elegant gardens and the sea.
If this idea resonates with you, feel free to reach out. We can design together an elopement experience that truly reflects your vision.

Elope on the islands: Capri, Ischia, Procida
Capri
Capri is the definition of timeless Italian glamour, suspended between dramatic cliffs and deep blue sea. The iconic Caesar Augustus in Anacapri offers breathtaking terraces high above the Faraglioni, including a private terrace perfect for an intimate dinner for two, while the amazing Gardens of Villa San Michele bring an artistic and peaceful atmosphere. For vows or a photoshoot with a wilder touch, the ruins of Villa Damecuta create a raw and cinematic backdrop facing the open Mediterranean. Capri can be lively and exclusive, but for many couples, it remains the ultimate Italian dream.
An intimate sunset wedding in Capri

Ischia
Ischia offers a wilder, more authentic island atmosphere, far from the crowds of the Amalfi Coast. The iconic Castello Aragonese, rising dramatically above the sea, creates one of the most striking backdrops in Southern Italy for an elopement or intimate ceremony. Between thermal gardens, cliffside views and golden sunsets, Ischia feels raw, cinematic and deeply Mediterranean. on September 2025, Venus Williams chose Ischia to celebrate the first part of her wedding. Probably another sign that the island has so much to offer.
Procida
The tiny island of Procida is one of the loveliest hidden gems of the Amalfi Coast. If you are a cinephiles, maybe you have seen a few places of the island in Anthony Minghella’s The Talented Mr. Ripley, (1999) starring Matt Damon and Jude Law. Procida is one of Italy’s most authentic islands, with pastel houses, quiet harbors and a raw Mediterranean atmosphere. Eloping in Procida means choosing simplicity, sea views and a truly intimate experience far from the crowds.

Sorrento
Sorrento is a great choice for an intimate wedding on the Amalfi Coast, with panoramic terraces overlooking the sea and Mount Vesuvius in the distance. It is less expensive than other towns and there are several villas that can host bigger weddings. For elopement with a few guests or small weddings, Sorrento is a very good option. If you are eloping just the two of you, I would suggest other places on the Amalfi Coast. You can find budget friendly hotels, a good option to stay before or after the elopement and explore the area.
The nicest option for Civil legal wedding
With its beautiful medieval architecture, part of a 7th-century Convent, The Cloisters of San Francesco are the best location in Sorrento for civil legal wedding. located in the centre of town next to the Villa Comunale, this outdoor location is really the best location for ceremony.
Villas and great hotels for a wedding in Sorrento
Villa Antiche Mura offers breathtaking views over the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius, with elegant terraces perfect for an intimate ceremony and dinner.
Grand Hotel Royal combines classic Italian elegance with spectacular sea views and lush gardens overlooking the Bay of Naples. Its timeless atmosphere and private pier create the perfect backdrop for a sophisticated intimate wedding in Sorrento.
Villa Zagara is an historical Villa surrounded by a secret garden in the center of Sorrento. The ceremony unfolds along the iconic staircase framed by terracotta walls and Mediterranean greenery. The steps create a natural architectural stage, giving the moment a refined yet intimate atmosphere.
My fav hotels to stay and get ready: La Favorita with its wonderful garden, Bellevue Syrene the best hotel in town, luxury Relais et Chateau, the traditional and stunning Hotel Tramontano (lovely pool and great bar and rooftop with the best view).
Bonus: a typical restaurant with a huge lemon garden O’Parrucchiano,

Understand what works best for you
take decisions to elope on the Amalfi Coast
Elope on the Amalfi Coast with a few guests
Eloping alone or with a few guests significantly changes both the planning process and the overall budget of your special day. Some locations on the Amalfi Coast allow intimate ceremonies for just the two of you, while others can host 5, 10 or even 20 guests depending on the hotel or villa.
Of course, as a wedding photographer, I also photograph larger weddings of 80 to 100 guests and more. However, when planning an elopement on the Amalfi Coast, it’s important to understand that not every venue allows larger gatherings — especially in Positano, where space is limited and the town itself is very small.
Just the two of you
if your dream is to elope on the Amalfi Coast, just the two of you, I will share all my favorite locations with you — places I’ve personally planned and photographed many times since 2012.
I love creating relaxed timelines, because my goal is simple: you should experience your day exactly the way it feels right to you.
- A few quiet moments while getting ready before an emotional first look
- A symbolic ceremony with a celebrant — or private vows on the terrace of your hotel room.
- Cutting a cake or popping a bottle of champagne to celebrate with bubbles and laughter.
- Then we wander through the vibrant streets of your chosen Amalfi Coast town — a gelato in hand, a stop in the piazza, a spritz by the sea… whatever feels like you.
- And of course, a sunset boat ride — because there is no better way to end an Amalfi Coast elopement — followed by golden light on the beach before a beautiful dinner to close your day.
